The County of Riverside is seeking qualified residents and business leaders to serve as Public Members of the County Audit Committee. The Audit Committee is an advisory body established by the Board of Supervisors to enhance transparency, accountability, and integrity in County government. Operating in collaboration with the independently elected Auditor-Controller, the Committee provides structured, independent oversight while preserving the Auditor-Controller’s statutory authority and professional independence.
Public Members bring independent expertise and community perspective to this important oversight function. This is a meaningful opportunity to contribute professional insight, support sound financial stewardship, and help strengthen public confidence in County operations.
About the Audit Committee
The Audit Committee supports the Board of Supervisors in fulfilling its oversight responsibilities and serves as a structured forum for communication among the Board, the Auditor-Controller, executive leadership, and independent public members. The Committee operates in an advisory capacity and does not assume management or operational responsibilities.

What the Committee Does
The Committee plays a critical role in overseeing internal audit planning and performance, monitoring implementation of audit recommendations, and evaluating the County’s internal control and risk management environment.
- ✓Reviews and pre-approves the annual Internal Audit Plan.
- ✓Reviews audit reports and departmental corrective action responses.
- ✓Monitors implementation of audit recommendations.
- ✓Evaluates internal control systems and risk management practices.
- ✓Oversees internal audit quality assurance and periodic external quality reviews.
Who Should Apply
The County seeks individuals who bring professional expertise, sound judgment, and a commitment to ethical public service.
- ✓Reside in Riverside County or operate a business within Riverside County.
- ✓Possess professional experience in accounting, auditing, financial management, risk management, internal controls, compliance, or related disciplines.
- ✓Demonstrate strong analytical skills, sound professional judgment, and the ability to review and evaluate financial and audit materials.
- ✓Exhibit independence, integrity, objectivity, and a commitment to ethical governance.
- ✓Experience in public sector finance, governmental accounting, internal auditing, regulatory compliance, or corporate governance is highly desirable.

Application Process
Qualified candidates will be reviewed by the Auditor-Controller to verify professional qualifications and recommended to the Board of Supervisors for appointment. Public members are appointed by the Board and serve as part of the Committee’s independent oversight structure.
Term and Commitment
- ✓Public Members serve staggered two-year terms and may be renewed once.
- ✓To establish the initial Committee, one public member seat will serve a three-year term.
- ✓Members serve without compensation unless otherwise provided by the Board of Supervisors.
- ✓Members are expected to review materials in advance and actively participate in Committee discussion and oversight.
Meetings and Transparency
- ✓The Audit Committee meets at least quarterly, with additional meetings as necessary.
- ✓Meetings are conducted in compliance with the Ralph M. Brown Act.
- ✓Agendas and notices are publicly posted, and approved action minutes are retained as part of the official County record.
